During a visit to the ILI, Iran's ambassador to Russia expressed his willingness to enhance the institute's international presence and support the establishment of both online and physical branches in Russia.
The report on public relations and international affairs of the ILI states that Kazem Jalali, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia and a former representative of the people of Shahrood and Tehran in the Islamic Council, visited the Iran Language Institute on Saturday. During his visit, he met with Dr. Mahdi Zolfaghari, the director of the ILI, and learned about the activities of this esteemed institution, which is the oldest language education center in Iran and the Middle East.
At the start of this meeting, Dr. Zolfaghari expressed his satisfaction with the attendance of our country's ambassador in Moscow at the ILI, outlining the main focuses of the center's programs and activities.
Zolfaghari mentioned that the Iran Language Center is the largest and oldest language-teaching institution in the country. As it celebrates its 100th anniversary, the center offers instruction in ten languages to learners, students, and academics—an accomplishment that is unparalleled in the region.
Zolfaghari pointed out that each year, more than one million people are trained at this institution, which upholds international educational standards while also integrating local experiences. In response to the needs of the education market, the center consistently introduces new educational courses.
The director of the Iran Language Institute highlighted that one of the main goals of our current initiatives is to expand our activities beyond Iran’s borders. Steps have already been taken to achieve this objective.
Zolfaghari stated, "Your Excellency, given your extensive background in international activities and your leadership of the most important representative office of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow, you have the potential to greatly assist in achieving the ambitious goals of the ILI."
During the meeting, Dr. Kazem Jalali expressed his surprise at the extensive range of activities offered by the Iran Language Institute. He remarked, “The volume and scope of work being done at the ILI are truly remarkable and impressive to me.”
The Iranian ambassador in Moscow stated that the initiative to promote the Persian language alongside other international languages at this institution is commendable. He noted that this effort could significantly strengthen linguistic identity and enhance public diplomacy.
Dr. Jalali highlighted the significant resources available at the international level and committed to leveraging both his capabilities and those of the government to promote the education of the Persian language in Russia. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of enhancing Russian language education in Iran. It was agreed that cooperation would be established to create branches of the ILI in Russia.
Iran Language Institute is a growing organization
Dr. Jalali expressed his surprise at the age of the Iran Language Institute, noting that its hundred years of existence is a significant achievement. He proposed organizing a conference next year to celebrate this centenary. The conference would provide an opportunity to review both the successes and challenges the institute has faced over the past century.
He noted that a century is a significant amount of time for an institution to develop. The fact that the Iran Language Institute has endured various challenges over the past 100 years indicates that it has adapted to the needs of society. The increasing number of centers, language learners, staff, and teachers demonstrate that the Iran Language Institute is a thriving organization.
Promoting language fosters lasting relationships between nations and countries
The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia emphasized the significance of learning languages, stating that language serves as a vital connection between nations and countries. He noted that promoting a particular language can strengthen and enhance relationships between them. However, he acknowledged that one challenge many countries face is the limited number of effective linguists in this field. Additionally, he discussed the crucial role of translation in fostering diplomatic relations. and said: Basically, the durability of political relations is based on the fact that it is based on culture or, in the next stage, based on the economy. Language creates communication-based on politics, culture, and economy and can keep it stable. The more the scope of education in the language department, the wider and stronger communication will be achieved.
Future research plays a crucial role in the field of language education and learning
He emphasized the importance of focusing on the English language while also understanding other languages. I mentioned that both you and society should conduct future research in the field of language to identify areas that need further study.
Dr. Jalali emphasized that the relationship between Iran and Russia is founded on two key elements: geographical proximity and shared perspectives. He elaborated on the significance of these relations.
The director of the Iran Language Institute discussed several important topics regarding expanding cooperation in language education. These topics included the development of Russian language education in Iran, Persian language education in Russia, and English language education for Russian speakers in an online format. He also emphasized the need for collaboration with practical centers and Russian universities. To move forward, he requested the assistance of the esteemed ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia to help establish opportunities and platforms for partnership with relevant organizations.
